ENGLISH VERSION BELOW

________________

In his exhibition FROM, Yudi Noor creates a mystic place in which one can travel between past and future. The idea: that origin, source, and ancient knowledge are prerequisites for a successful future. The exhibition title FROM, a preposition that determines neither time nor locale, but movement and arrival, pointing back to the idea.

The installations, an assemblage of specially selected objects, present a dichotomy between folk tradition and industrial production. From the intricacies of Indonesian master woodwork carved from jackfruit wood to an antiquated boat from Kreuzberg to the mass produced elements of fluorescent tape and neon light, Noor’s materials come from origins as diverse as a rainforest, flea market, hardware store or factory workshop.

The central works of the exhibition, the framed wall piece Combatant, the ancient window panel with the luminous light of godly infinity Take Time to THINK… the boat decorated with neon lights and a spear The Ritual of Kalijaga compose a trinity within the spaces of the gallery, connected by poetics either within the work itself or as part of the title.

By combining sculpture with poetry, Noor invites the viewer into an experience of heightened awareness and entices us into moments of spiritual and meditative awareness. At the same time, alongside these moments of contemplation, the scent of freshly cooked food returns us to the present, to the here and now, life - with or without art.

During the installation and exhibition, Yudi Noor resides in the gallery during the installation and exhibition period. He can be contacted for a meeting at 0176 94365377.

__________
TESTIMONY OF A COMBATANT
I hear the screams of the wounded, screaming animals.
There are men shooting at the Moon.
There are birds falling from the nests.
It is time to rise.
Witness must be given.
Life must be protected.
(Rendra)

______
TAKE TIME TO THINK
Take time to THINK, it is the source of power
Take time to READ, it is the foundation of wisdom
Take time for QUIET, it is the opportunity to seek God
Take time to DREAM, it is what the future is made of unknown
Take time to PRAY, it is the greatest power on earth
The sky outside and the sky inside is the same
